What is the average cost of a fractional CMO for a mid-sized outsourcing company?

The cost of a fractional CMO for a mid-sized outsourcing company depends on three things: hours a month, length of term, and what the scope includes. Ask for all three before comparing monthly fees. As a published reference point, Pivot AI Global's marketing membership is $7,500 a month on a twelve-month term, for thirty hours a month of work plus discoverability services.

Why one average number tells you little

Fractional CMO offers are built differently. One quote covers a few hours a month of advice. Another covers a leader who runs the function inside the business. A third bundles in production work. Put the monthly fees side by side and you are comparing three different things.

So before you compare prices, get the same three facts from every offer: how many hours a month, for how long, and what work is in scope. Then the numbers mean something.

What the Pivot AI Global price buys

Pivot AI Global publishes its terms, so a BPO can see exactly what the money covers before the first conversation.

The three things that move any fractional price

  • Hours a month. The number of hours is the clearest measure of how much leadership you are buying. A low monthly fee with few hours is a different product from a membership that runs the function.
  • Length of term. Positioning, demand generation and discoverability build over quarters. A short term buys a plan. A longer term buys the plan and the time to run it.
  • Scope. Ask whether the fee covers strategy only, or strategy plus the work that makes a company show up in AI-generated answers. Ask too whether production is in the fee or billed on top.

What the fee does not cover

Pivot AI Global does not take production retainers or build campaigns on a client's behalf. The point of the membership is to build the clarity and capability a BPO needs to run its own marketing. If the company needs production capacity, plan for it separately, in your own team or with a partner you choose.

How it compares with a full-time hire

A full-time CMO search runs months. Then there is onboarding, then there is the ramp, and only then does the work start. You pay for the seat long before you get the judgment.

A fractional membership starts in week one, because the person you hired has already run the function somewhere harder. Below the line where a full-time leader becomes necessary, and across the $20M to $200M+ range where most Pivot AI Global clients sit, fractional usually buys more judgment per dollar than a full-time hire at the same spend.

When a full-time hire is worth the cost

There is a point where fractional stops being the efficient choice. If marketing is your primary growth engine, if you run several product lines with separate go-to-market motions, or if the function needs daily management of a team of ten, you need someone in the building full time.

Who the membership is priced for

Founder-led and mid-market BPOs with $20M to $200M+ in revenue, where marketing still lacks an operator at the leadership table. Mid-sized CX and B2B services providers repositioning for AI. PE-backed services portfolio companies that need operator-level marketing leadership rather than an agency retainer.

Questions to ask before you sign any fractional offer

  • How many hours a month does the fee include, and how are they used?
  • How long is the term, and what happens at the end of it?
  • Is production in the fee, or billed on top?
  • Does the work cover how AI assistants describe and recommend the company?
  • What will the leadership team be able to do on its own when the term ends?
